UMATILLA COUNTY – The 2021 Umatilla County Fair’s livestock auction is one for the record books. Board of Commissioners Chairman George Murdock said the previous record, set in 2019, was 250 animals earning $616,000.

“The 2021 final figure is somewhere in the neighborhood of $786,000 on 219 lots,” he said. “That’s just absolutely remarkable.”

Murdock said the amount of support the young people receive from the business community during the livestock auction is laudable.

“I’ve got to hand it to the business people in this county,” he said. “They care about the kids. That $786,000 they’ve invested in our youth – our 4H and FFA youth – really is quite a tribute.”
