Beware of hypothermia and frostbite this week

JOHN DAY – In a special weather statement from the National Weather Service, the agency warns that this arctic air mass bringing cold temperatures will leave people more susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia. Governor Kate Brown recently declared a state of emergency lasting through January 3^rd, due to projected severe winter weather across the state.

Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush came into the studio and reflected on the state of emergency:

“I think most importantly, is just understanding—when you get temperatures that low, in the single digits—any exposed skin when you’re outside could be subject to frostbite or a cold injury of some type, and so you really have to be dressed properly. It’s a different environment.”

This week expect high temperatures throughout Grant County to be mainly in the teens and 20s and overnight lows in the single digits and teens. That’s the temperature forecast through Saturday morning.
