PENDLETON – Congressman Cliff Bentz (R-Ontario) is holding a listening session regarding wolves in Pendleton Thursday, April 4. His office said that the session will include members of the ranching community as well as representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Bentz is the chairman of the Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries Subcommittee in the House of Representatives. He has said that as the population of wolves increase in his district he wants to educate Congress about the issues involved.

“The growing population of wolves across Oregon is wreaking havoc for ranchers, farmers, and sportsmen,” he said regarding a similar listening session held last month in Prineville. “Ranchers are tired of seeing their cattle chased around and killed and hunters are tired of seeing a decline in mule deer population.”

He said that he plans to take what he learns from listening sessions to work on a legislative solution at the federal level.

The public is welcome to attend the listening session at 2:30 p.m. April 4 at the Pendleton Convention Center, 1601 Westgate.
