Bear captured in Weston neighborhood and relocated

WESTON — Authorities successfully captured and relocated a bear after it wandered into residential yards and rummaged through trash bins in the Weston area Tuesday night, according to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.

Two deputies responded to reports of a bear sighting in the rural community. Upon arrival, the deputies located the animal and tracked its movements as it traveled along a local creek bed, ventured into residential yards, and scavenged for garbage along its route.

The multi-agency response included assistance from the Oregon State Police and wildlife officials from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW).

ODFW officers ultimately tranquilized the bear and safely removed it from the neighborhood without incident or injury.
