UMATILLA COUNTY – It’s only October, but Umatilla County Public Health Director Joseph Fiumara is urging parents of to get their kids’ vaccination records in order well before school exclusion day on Feb. 16. On that day, students that don’t have the most updated information are barred from attending school unless they have an exclusion.
Fiumara said that if the vaccinations were given in Oregon, it’s on file with UCo Health and all it takes to get it is a call. The same is not true of those who go out of state for medical care in Walla Walla or Tri-Cities.
“We don’t have access to Washington systems, so if you do know that you’ve been vaccinating your kids up there, I do encourage you to reach out to your provider and get a copy of those records,” he said.
In Oregon, vaccinations are required of all those from 2 months old through 12th grade. Colleges and universities also have requirements that differ from one institution to the other, but almost all of them require measles vaccinations.
