PENDLETON – When a fire breaks out in Umatilla County, departments from throughout the region hurry to provide backup. In addition, some departments have written agreements to provide that help.
The question that some fire officials are pondering is what is the most efficient way to provide support? East Umatilla Fire and Rescue Chief Dave Baty said it’s a question that is beginning to be discussed.
“This is at its absolute infancy right now,” he said. “We’re basically in the information- and statistical-gathering stage. We’re trying to present this as what it could look like.”
Baty said the talks that are beginning will be discussed with the public once all of the information and statistics have been studied.
Chief Baty was a guest on the KUMA Coffee Hour on Jan. 30. Listen to the complete podcast at https://omny.fm/shows/coffee-hour-podcast.
