BAKER CITY — Get ready to dust off your mitts and break out the ballpark snacks because Baker Little League’s Opening Day is just around the corner.

40 baseball and softball teams in several divisions from t-ball to middle schoolers from Baker County are set to swing into spring with a community parade and opening day ceremonies set for Saturday, April 13 in Baker City.

“There’ll be 28 games on Saturday, so it’ll be fun,” said Shelly Cutler, President of the Baker Little League. “No matter where you go there’ll be a game to watch, so it’s going to be great.”

For those interested, the parade of little sluggers will begin at Geiser-Pollman Park at 8:30am on Saturday and make their way down Main Street to Wade Williams Field on River Drive and Kathryn Lane. Opening Day ceremonies will commence around 9:00am.

The ceremony at Wade Williams will include the national anthem, an introduction of the teams and ceremonial first pitches.

Cutler says if anyone wants to help out this season, the league is always looking and grateful for volunteers.

“We’ll take anybody interested in working in the concession stand or anybody at all interested in learning more about the rules in the game. We’re always looking for umpires,” said Cutler.
