LA GRANDE – The infield artificial turf construction is nearly completed at Pioneer Park’s Optimist Field and Trice Community Field.  A project that began in late summer will have the field ready in the spring, just in time for the baseball and softball season.  Following the turf installation, some of the fields will need to be seeded.  The City of La Grande, Eastern Oregon University, and the La Grande School District, all contributed to the cost of the project.  In-kind contributions and volunteer support came from Brian Bell, Jay Collman and RD Mac, Corey Gomes and Rogers Asphalt, Eastern Oregon Rental, Mitch Williams, and Becker General Contractor.  In the future, the City of La Grande will maintain the fields and the School District and City will fund future turf maintenance costs.
