Baker School District Introduces Oregon International School (OIS)

BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker School District) Development of Baker School District’s international charter school, Oregon International School (OIS), began prior to the COVID-19 pandemic; and through widespread partnerships, OIS is now poised to provide global exchange opportunities that benefit students, staff, families, and thegreater community.

This month, OIS was named by the US Commercial Service as Oregon Exporter of the Month. According to the US Commercial Service, in the 2019-2020 academic year, there were 10,705 foreign students in Oregon, bringing $380.3 million in economic benefit and supporting 3,703 jobs.

OIS also stands ready to help local students experience learning abroad at established sister schools across theglobe.

“The school board and I are excited to see the dream of Oregon International School really blossoming this year,” saidSuperintendent Mark Witty. “We have been able to offer F-1 student visas for some time; but after three years of navigating red tape, we became one of only a handful of other public school districts in the nation to be able to offer J-1 student visas this year. We have agreements in place to host international students in Baker City starting this Spring, and we are excited to offer local students the opportunity to learn in international sister schools in the near future.”
