BAKER CITY — You can’t go anywhere these days without seeing online devices seemingly in the hands of every child.
With sexting, child predation and cyber-bullying on the rise, it’s important to safeguard their well-being.
That’s why the Baker 5J School District is holding two nights of presentations on cyber safety and training from a world-renowned cyber expert for both students and parents.
Detective Richard Wistocki is holding two presentations on Monday, February 26, or Tuesday, February 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the BHS Auditorium. The presentation will focus on empowering parents, guardians and students and how to stay safe on devices, social media, and gaming platforms.
According to his website, child crime expert Detective Richard Wistocki has dedicated his career to helping children by tirelessly pursuing, apprehending and prosecuting child predators. As an active Cyber Crimes Detective he educates Law Enforcement using cutting edge investigative techniques and Parents and Students on responsible digital activity.
“One of the greatest risks to our children are the devices they carry with them everyday,” says Detective Wistock on his website.
The Baker School District says the largest proponent for bringing the training to Baker has been Community Service Deputy Gabe Maldonado from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
“He has attended the training elsewhere and heavily advocated for bringing it to our community,” says Lindsey Bennington-McDowell, spokesperson for the school district.
The District says the purpose of these presentations is to address major harmful risks associated with our modern world and stop something bad from happening before it actually does.
Parents are asked to contact the Baker School District for more information.
