Baker School District Hires New Chief Financial Officer

BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker School District) Baker School District’s current Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Regina Sampson, announced in early April her plans to leave the district following the current school year; and the district began a search for her successor.

The Baker School District Board voted during their regular monthly meeting to approve the hiring of Mitch Neilson as the district’s next CFO beginning July 1.

Mr. Neilson has been the Director of Finance and Operations for Scappoose School District 1J in Oregon since July 2014, overseeing all aspects of the financial operations of Scappoose School District, as well as Facilities, IT, Food Service, and Transportation for the district. Prior to his role with Scappoose School District, Mr. Neilson managed emergency services and training programs for the City of Hillsboro and its 1,500 emergency volunteers as Emergency Manager from November 2008 to June 2014. Mr. Neilson also taught dual-credit classes at Parkrose High School in Marketing and Accounting from August 2003 to August 2008, where he developed the Parkrose High School Business Academy.

“I am really excited to work with Mr. Neilson,” says Incoming Superintendent Casey Hallgarth. “Our interview panel was impressed by the depth of his experience, and he brings a skill set to the district that will keep us on a path to greater excellence.”

“I look forward to joining Baker School District and leading the Finance team to help the district realize its overall goals through tangible objectives,” says Mr. Neilson.
