BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker School District) At their regular board meeting on Tuesday, February 20, school board members adopted Big Ideas as the new K-12 math curriculum for Baker School District. The adoption came at the recommendation of the math adoption and pilot committee after being part of a rigorous curriculum review. Big Ideas was piloted as one of two top options at the elementary and secondary levels within the district during the current school year, and it will be fully adopted across grades K-12 beginning with the 2024-25 school year.
Haines Elementary Principal Heidi Stocks, who led the math adoption and pilot committee, notes: “Big Ideas receives exemplary ratings from ODE for Kindergarten through the High School Core Credits. At the state level, Big Ideas receives solid marks for its rigor, cognitive challenge, engagement, and support for teachers and students, findings which were confirmed through our local review. Big Ideas is closely aligned to our state’s academic standards and will prepare students for success from kindergarten to high school.”
Another strength of the curriculum for those who participated in the pilot are the videos incorporated to assist parents helping with math concepts at home.
School board members received the recommendation for Big Ideas as the district-wide math curriculum with a lot of excitement, expressing the value in a cohesive curriculum, and adopted the new curriculum unanimously.
