BAKER CITY – Baker School District Superintendent Erin Lair (EL) spoke with Elkhorn Media Group’s Shannon McKone (SM) to discuss highlights from last week’s school board meeting.
(SM) Thank you for joining me, Superintendent Lair. Let’s talk about some highlights from the school board meeting that took place yesterday evening.
(EL) Hi, Shannon. We started out the board meeting recognizing three Promise Students of the Month: Wyatt & Elle Dennis from Brooklyn Primary and Thaddeus Pepera from Baker High School. As usual, it was wonderful to hear about all the good these students are bringing to those around them.
We also enjoyed a fantastic presentation highlighting Hispanic Heritage Month that included beautiful visuals and information about Quincenera tradition and Dia de los Muertos.
(SM) That’s great! What other topics were covered at the board meeting that might be of interest to the community?
(EL) Another highlight of the meeting was an update on BTI and our Auxiliary Programs.
There are currently 7 auxiliary programs running on school days: The After School Program at Baker Early Learning Center; ArtSpeak; Bulldog Club focusing on Art, Health & Wellness; Chess for Success; Choir; Dance; and Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Club.
Additionally, there are Friday programs for art, STEM, chess, and culinary arts; and Ski for the Health of It will be back in January.
We’re really thankful for the teachers and community partners who make these auxiliary programs possible.

(SM) Thanks Superintendent Lair for all the information and for sharing these highlights with us.
