BAKER CITY – (Release from Baker Relief Nursery) Parenting is hard even in the most ideal circumstances. When times get tough, the youngest children are the ones that suffer the most. At Baker Relief Nursery, it is their mission to nurture rural children and families to be safe and successful. A significant piece of that is decreasing unnecessary stress by providing diapers and wipes to local families that need it the most.

Helping to reduce stress for local families is Lew Bros. Tire Center, known for their commitment

to the community. This is the second year for the Tire center to offer support by hosting a diaper

drive. When asked, Diana Brown at Lew Bros. states “we are all in when it comes to helping out

our local children!”

There is great benefit connected to investing in early learning programs for disadvantaged children. “90% of brain development occurs in the first five years of life,” explains RaeAnn

Butler, the Nursery’s execute ve director. “These early years directly impact the economic, social, and health outcomes for individuals, making it the most important me to make a difference in a child’s life.” Baker Relief Nursery offers a combination of free services to support young children, including therapeutic classrooms for children birth to five, home visits to provide individual support to parents, along with emergency services such as the diaper bank that’s available to all enrolled families.

Unopened packages of diapers and wipes can be donated through the entire month of October. Items can be taken directly to Lew Bros. Tire Center located at 210 Bridge Street in Baker City, between the hours of 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday. Fill up the toolbox located in the front lobby!

“A key component of being a certified Relief Nursery is having community support”, shares Butler. Without such support, the Nursery would not be successful. “They say it takes a village,

and the community is an essential part of that village.”
