BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker School District) Baker Middle School (BMS) students are back in a safer gym following the recent seismic rehabilitation of the space.
Superintendent Erin Lair expressed, “We are so thankful for the many partners who helped make this project possible – such as CB Const, Inc; WRK Engineers; Wenaha Group; and First Presbyterian Church of Baker City – as well as the Oregon Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program for the necessary funding.”
First Presbyterian Church of Baker City was also recognized as an Outstanding Community Partner at the October 20 school board meeting. From the beginning of the school year, with the gym unavailable to students, the church opened their facility across the street from BMS for use at mealtimes; and they did so free of charge to the school district. Pastor Cyndi shared her heart at the meeting, “This church loves these kids. Anything you need, just let us know – we’re here.” “We couldn’t be more grateful for this partnership and what it means to our students,” said Superintendent Lair.
On October 20, the BMS girls volleyball team enjoyed playing in their own gym again; and it’s been exciting to have the space alive with students and our community once more.
