BAKER CITY – Following their triumphant victory at the Oregon State Clay Target League Class 2A state championship on June 23, the Baker High School trap shooting team is seeking to raise $8,000 to fund championship rings for its 24 team members.
The team, which won the state title by breaking 472 out of 500 targets, has already raised half of the necessary funds. Rocky Brown, owner of Lew Bros. Les Schwab Tires, expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s achievements and the ongoing fundraising efforts.
“We’ve had such a phenomenal year,” Brown said. “Winning the boys’ basketball state title, the girls’ cheerleading state championship, and now the trap club’s success—it’s been incredible. We’re about halfway there in the fundraising, and we need the community’s support to reach our goal.”
Sophomore Chris Schuh led the team with an outstanding performance, hitting 99 out of 100 targets to secure the overall boys’ championship.
In addition to Schuh’s remarkable performance, Riley Hurliman tied for third in the girls’ event with 89 targets hit. Other notable performances included Jose Armenta, who tied for fourth in the varsity boys’ category with 96 targets, and Remington Benson, who tied for sixth with 94 targets.
To support the Baker High School trap shooting team, donations can be made at Lew Bros. Les Schwab Tires or directly to the school. “If anyone has a passion for shotguns or the Baker Bulldogs, we welcome donations, whether it’s money, checks, or cash,” Brown said.
