Baker High School’s Suzy Cole receives Legacy Lifetime Achievement Award

BAKER CITY — A Baker High School teacher and coach was recently honored for her lifetime of achievement at the Oregon Statewide Transition Conference. Suzy Cole was recognized with the Legacy Lifetime Achievement Award on March 5th. Cole has been a teacher for 31 years and a coach for 37. During her award presentation it was said that “…her commitment to ensuring students are not only able to graduate, but truly prepare for life beyond high school is boundless. She builds authentic, trusting relationships with students as foundations for meaningful transition planning by creating a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where students feel safe.”

The OSTC website explains the event is the only statewide conference for “all things” related to secondary transition for students and youth. It is geared toward those aged 14 through 24, or from middle school to early post-secondary years, who experience disability.

It was also noted that Mrs. Cole “…listens, advocates, and empowers those around her. Her dedication, compassion, and expertise have shaped many during her remarkable career.”

Baker High School wrote on social media, “She was recognized for her major contributions implementing predictors of post school success for students who are transition-aged and exemplifying the best of the philosophy of education as it relates to the area of transition and post school success. Congratulations Suzy!”
