BAKER COUNTY — Oregon State University Extension recently shared that one Baker County 4-H member, along with her dog, have rekindled and started up a local canine club and are working to become the first registered therapy team in Baker County. The organization reports that the 4-H dog club in Baker County has been inactive for several years and was revived in 2022 thanks to Kate Hill and her border collie, Meg.

Kate is currently training Meg to become a therapy dog through the nonprofit Pet Partners program. The program’s data shows that upon completion of the course, the two would be the first registered dog therapy team in Baker County.

OSU Extension wrote, “Through 4-H, Kate built leadership skills, strengthened the human-animal bond and created a space where kids learn responsible dog ownership, confidence and community connection. Soon, Meg may be visiting schools and hospitals to support mental health across the county.”
