BAKER COUNTY – Baker County Commissioners have declared May 9 – 13, 2022 as Baker County Wildfire Awareness Week. The following is the declaration from Baker County.
“WHEREAS, Baker County wildfires continue to threaten life, structures, natural resources; and
WHEREAS, the number, size and intensity of wildfires continually challenges local efforts to protect life, property and natural resources; and
WHEREAS, with an increasing number of Baker County homeowners living in, or bordering areas vulnerable to wildfire; and
WHEREAS, Baker County residents understand the importance of creating a defensible space around their homes by reducing hazardous natural fuel loads; and
WHEREAS, Baker County encourages fire-safe behavior by all who live, work and recreate throughout the county; and
WHEREAS, the Baker County Interagency Fire Prevention Team promotes interagency wildfire campaigns during WILDFIRE AWARENESS WEEK to encourage residents to actively participate in fire prevention efforts around the home and property; and
WHEREAS, Baker County Fire Departments, Districts and RFPA’s prior to Fire Season will be actively conducting Pre-Fire Planning and Home Risk Assessments throughout the county, and
WHEREAS, all Baker County homeowner’s share in the responsibility to protect life, property, and our natural resources from catastrophic wildfires and continue to create and promote recognized FireWise Communities in high risk areas across the county.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Baker County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim, May 9 – 13, 2022 as Baker County Wildfire Awareness Week.”
