BAKER COUNTY – (Press release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) Baker County Search and Rescue was deployed on the afternoon of July 6, 2026 after receiving a report of a vehicle submerged in the Snake River.
During the recovery, which took place approximately 6.5 miles north of Spring Rec near Huntington, SAR members set up a ropes system and rappelled down an embankment to deploy a submersible ROV (remotely operated vehicle) owned by Idaho Power.
After locating and securing the vehicle, Josiah Schmoe of HTR successfully recovered the 1997 Honda Accord. The vehicle was unoccupied and appeared to have been stripped.
