BAKER COUNTY – Search and rescue teams are a crucial part of Oregon’s rural communities. Through hell or high water, and sometimes both simultaneously, these dedicated and highly skilled teams of volunteers continue to go out of their way to save lives in some of the harshest of conditions. In formal recognition of one of these teams, the Baker County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Information Bureau officially awarded the Service Organization of the Year Award to Baker County Search and Rescue during the chamber’s 92nd annual awards banquet on Saturday, January 20.
If the date sounds familiar for another reason, that’s because Baker County SAR actually responded to a call that same day. In a social media announcement for the award, the Baker County Sheriff’s Office gave the following comment:
“SAR is comprised of dedicated volunteers who donate their time and resources to help those in need. It seemed fitting that just hours before the banquet, SAR was deployed on a rescue mission. As always, they were ready to respond!”
Congratulations and thank you to all members of the Baker County Search and Rescue team.
