Baker County Road and Noxious Weed Departments to begin vegetation management on county right of ways

BAKER COUNTY – (Release from Baker County) Baker County Road Department and Noxious Weed Department will conduct road maintenance and vegetation management methods along Baker County right of ways beginning as early as March 23, 2026, weather permitting, and ending as late as December 31, 2026. Baker County crews will utilize various control methods including grading, mowing, and herbicide application to control and mitigate growth of noxious weeds on approximately 1,852 miles of Baker County right of ways with the goal of preserving local industries and preserving Baker County’s way of life.
What residents are to expect:
- Baker County marked vehicles and machinery on roadways throughout the County working on roads, road shoulders, and right of ways.
- Grading to occur on Baker County managed roads for public safety throughout the calendar year.
- Mowing on roadsides where vegetation (trees, shrubs, forbs, and/or grasses) are overgrown. This is done to protect all Baker County residents utilizing Baker County roads for transportation or recreation. This is to occur periodically throughout the calendar year.
- Herbicide applications performed by licensed applicators in marked vehicles along County right of ways within 0-10 feet of the road shoulder for bare ground, and within 11-30 feet of right of way using selective herbicide on land containing broadleaf noxious weeds. Herbicide application may start as early as March 23, 2026, and end as late as December 31st, 2026, weather permitting.
Landowners who wish to maintain a section of County managed right of way may do so upon securing a contract with the Baker County Road Department and meeting a number of other requirements.
