BAKER CITY — (Release by Baker Co. Library District) Baker County Library District’s Bookmobile services will resume beginning Tuesday, February 6. It has been unavailable since December 5 due to major repairs, which are now complete.
Total cost of repairs amounted to just under $35,000. Work included installation of a new engine, a rebuild of the transmission and clutch, and replacement of other essential components such as brake pads, shocks, rotors, u-joints, bushings, belts and hoses. To fund the project the library board authorized tapping into its Reserve Fund for Capital Investment, which the district created in 2019 for such purposes.
“This investment ensures the continued reliability and safety of the Bookmobile,” said Perry Stokes, Director of the Baker County Library District. “It serves a vital role in our mission to promote literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement by providing access to library materials and services to residents who may not have Internet access and face barriers to visiting our physical locations. We appreciate the patience, understanding, and support of our community while the Bookmobile was down.”
The Bookmobile schedule involves twice monthly visits to rural schools, senior living facilities, and designated hub locations in remote areas of Baker County including Keating, Oxbow, Medical Springs, and Hereford. The library website www.bakerlib.org features the most up-to-date schedule information.
