BAKER COUNTY — October is National Fire Prevention Month, and the Baker County Interagency Fire Prevention Team is all about keeping the local landscape and its residents safe from fire.
While the use of burn barrels is allowed with a permit, the team are urging residents to take a few considerations when doing so. The Vale BLM says to make sure your barrel is solid, sturdy, and covered with a grate or screen. Also, fire officials ask folks to have some water and a shovel handy when doing your burning; and to never leave an active fire unattended.
BCIFPT reminds the public that, “…burn barrels are currently only allowed with a permit, so check with your local fire department or the Oregon Department of Forestry.”
Fire Prevention Week is next week, October 5th through the 11th. Currently, fire danger is “Moderate” in Baker County.
