BAKER COUNTY — With so much going on in our lives during the holiday season, it can be easy to become complacent. The Baker County Health Department has recently highlighted several reminders and tips to stay safe and prepared against everything from sickness to winter travel elements.

For their winter travel safety reminder, the health department says, “Before you head out on those cold-weather roads, make sure your vehicle is stocked with a Winter Emergency Kit. A little preparation can make a big difference!”

The following is BCHD’s suggested list of what to pack in your vehicle:

  • Warm clothing and blankets
  • Flashlight + extra batteries
  • Snacks and water
  • Phone charger
  • First aid kit
  • Ice scraper, small shovel, and sand or cat litter for traction

The agency noted, “Whether you’re commuting or traveling for the holidays, staying prepared helps keep you and others safe on the road.”

Baker County Health Department also issued a list to promote good health and wellness during the winter months. Find their pointers below:

  • Snooze a little longer – Your body works harder in the winter. Give it the extra rest it needs!
  • Move your body, even in the cold – Bundle up and enjoy a brisk walk or a snowy adventure. Fresh air does wonders!
  • Stay social – Make it a point to connect with friends or family at least once a week. It’s great for your mood and mental health.
  • Protein power – Add a little protein to each meal to keep your energy steady throughout the day.
  • Load up on fruits & veggies – Winter produce is delicious! Keep your plate colorful for a strong immune system.
  • Wash those hands – A simple habit that keeps germs from spreading all season.
