BAKER CITY — The Baker County Child Advocacy Center has recently shared a few pointers and safety rules for children and teens when accessing the internet. While the internet is useful for getting information, socializing, and more, it is also a platform for predators, scammers, and bullies.

The center recently highlighted some tips shared by Consumer Notice that can help keep youngsters safe. They suggest:

  • Never giving out personal information, including your name, address, phone number, social security number, or home address.
  • Do not post your photo on public sites or chat with strangers.
  • Don’t open emails from people you do not know.
  • Do not respond to hurtful, insulting, or bullying messages; and report them to an adult.
  • Never agree to get together with someone you’ve only met online.
  • Set time limits for being online.

The Baker County Child Advocacy Center is located on the south side of St. Alphonsus Hospital in Baker City. If you have questions, call the center at (541) 523-8344.
