BAKER CITY — The Public Works Department in Baker City will begin fire hydrant testing this week, according to a release from the city. The annual hydrant testing and water line flushing are scheduled to begin the week of March 24th and continue for approximately two-to-three weeks.
The city reports, “Through this testing/flushing process, small silt-like particles may become ‘stirred up’ in the lines. These are particles that have settled in less active water lines. This accumulation of sediment may cause water clarity problems.”
Baker City Public Works notes that people who do experience water clarity problems should turn on the cold water to an outside faucet until it runs clear. Also, residents who are using a home water filtration system are encouraged to clean their screens following the work to restore full water flow.
If residents continue to experience cloudy water well after the flushing, contact the Baker City Public Works Department at (541) 575-6541.
