Baker City woman dies at Malheur County Jail

ONTARIO — An investigation is underway into the death of a Baker City woman who was found dead in her cell at the Malheur County Jail.

The Malheur County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Nicole Kerri Morris was found dead at the jail on the morning of Monday, November 13.

The Sheriff’s Office says to avoid any conflicts of interest, they requested an outside agency to perform a full and complete investigation. The investigation will be led by a detective from the Ontario Police Department with assistance from the Oregon State Police.

The investigation into the cause of death and circumstances surrounding it are ongoing. The Sheriff’s office says an autopsy and toxicology are in process but results will take some time.

According to court records, Morris was arrested and lodged in the jail on October 26th for giving false information to a police officer in connection with a citation or warrant. She was in custody while awaiting her next court hearing.
