BAKER CITY – A Baker City woman faces multiple charges after allegedly using the credit card of a woman who recently passed away.

49-year-old Debra Renee Efird was arrested by Baker City Police on Monday, Nov. 20, for allegedly committing identity theft.

Efird is accused of using a credit card issued to a woman who passed away recently to make purchases totaling $251.53 at Jackson’s Food Mart, located at the Chevron gas station on Main Street in Baker.  Baker City Police says that Efird was arrested at the convenience store while attempting to use the same credit card for more purchases.

According to police, the investigation was initiated after a Baker City man reported unauthorized transactions on his deceased mother’s credit card. The man mentioned that the lost card had been canceled, but a replacement might have been sent to the mother’s Baker City residence. Sales receipts from Efird’s purchases matched the last four digits of the card issued to the deceased woman.

Efird now faces four counts of identity theft, three counts of third-degree theft, one count of second-degree theft and four counts of computer crimes. She is currently being held in the Baker County Jail.
