BAKER CITY — The Baker City Police Department continues to fill its ranks.
The department recently welcomed two new officers, Josh Horlock and Andrew Martin.
According to a Facebook post from the department, Officer Horlocker will be attending the academy in April and Officer Martin is a lateral with 7.5 years of law enforcement experience.
Being a lateral officer means Martin has his certifications and can begin patrolling Baker streets.
Two new officers on the staff is welcome news to Chief Ty Duby, who recently told Elkhorn Media Group that he recently filled three positions out of four that have been open.
The department has been dealing with staffing issues for a significant amount of time. It reached a point where last November, Duby announced that the department would end 24-hour patrols.
Duby has not yet said whether he plans to resume those round the clock patrols.
