BAKER CITY — The City of Baker City wants to hear from community members on ways the town can raise revenue.
Facing a $1 million shortfall, city leaders and the city council are looking for ways to get more cash flowing into the town’s coffers.
One idea that was passed but now suspended was the public safety fee. That fee was passed by the former city council in August and is a $15 fee for residential water/sewer accounts, and $50 for commercial accounts.
Revenue from the fee, estimated at about $1 million per year, could be used only for the police and fire departments.
The fee went into effect in October, but the new city council suspended it until further comment from the public could be heard.
Discussion on the public safety fee is expected.
The town halls on revenue options are scheduled for:
December 5th, 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Crossroads Carnegie, 2020 Auburn Street.
December 6th, 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Community Connections, 2810 Ceder Street.
