BAKER CITY – A Baker City teen has been named the winner of the Baker County Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural t-shirt design contest.
16-year-old Khalia-Ann Phalum won the contest with her design that she says was inspired for her love of the Oregon Trail.
The chamber launched the contest earlier this year.
Chamber Executive Director Devon Colton says she put on the contest because of a lack of t-shirts that were available at the Chamber when she started her job last fall. The contest was open to all residents of Baker County.
“As a Bakerite myself and being passionate about art, I realized this would be a good creative outlet for people,” said Colton. “I want local artists to showcase their work and get it out there,”
Phalum’s art was chosen as the winner by the Chamber’s Board of Directors. The second place artwork was made into a postcard.
Phalum, who’s homeschooled, wants to be a rancher when she grows up but says she’ll always continue exploring her love of art.
“I just love drawing and painting,” said Phalum. “I’m excited to be named the winner and to help spread the word on how great Baker County is.”
Her parents say they’re very proud of her and that this is a great start for her to continue her artistry.
