BAKER CITY — The city of Baker City has issued an update on the ongoing street overlay project affecting Cedar, Birch, Broadway, and Plum Streets.
During the process of the work a large asphalt grinder was used to remove approximately 12 inches of the existing surface so the base could be concrete treated. To protect infrastructure during grinding all manholes and water valves were temporarily lowered below the 12-inch mark.
Crews this week began restoring the affected manholes and water valves to the proper surface level so that access to the sewer lines can be maintained.
City officials noted that due to seasonal weather changes this phase of work will continue as conditions allow, and they expect the work to be completed by next spring.
โWe appreciate the publicโs patience and cooperation as we finish this important part of our street improvement project,โ the city said in a statement.
