Baker City Rotary Scholarship deadline is April 25

BAKER CITY/NORTH POWDER — Students from Baker City and North Powder are invited to apply for the 2025 Baker City Rotary Scholarship Program. According to the club’s Scholarship Committee, applications are being accepted from students at Baker Technical Institute, the Eagle Cap Alternative School, and other sources.

Here are a few details, according to information from the Baker City Rotary Club:

Applicants must show qualities associated with the principles of Rotary:

Service beyond self: The four-way test of the things we think, say or do—

First—Is it the truth?

Second—Is it fair to all concerned?

Third—Will it bring good will and friendship?

Fourth—Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Criteria:

  1. Academic success.
  2. Must demonstrate mature judgement.
  3. Must demonstrate leadership ability and service to others.
  4. Must be a person with diversified interests such as school activities, community involvement, work experiences, and athletics.
  5. Must be of high moral character and standing.
  6. Must show continuity between personal preparation and life goals.

The selection procedure is as follows:

  • With the assistance of the school leadership and the Scholarship Committee, members will identify the top five applicants.
  •   The Scholarship Committee will meet and discuss the top applicants as identified by individual committee members.
  • The Scholarship Committee will vote on the top five applicants as identified by the committee.
  • Voting will be by numerical basis—5 being the highest, and 1 being the lowest. The two applicants receiving the highest total score will be awarded the Baker City Rotary Club Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 each.

Scholarship applications will be accepted through April 25th. More information is available through the local high schools’ college advisor’s offices.
