BAKER CITY โ€“ Winter is back from hiatus, that means plenty of snow removal for municipal workers. Baker City Public Works began its first round of street plowing on the evening of Friday, February 7. For any Baker City residents curious about when and where public works will conduct street plowing, Public Works Director Joyce Bornstedt offered some insight. Snow plowing will begin when it is currently snowing and there is at least four inches of snow on the ground. See the map attached for all 2024-2025 Baker City snow removal routes.

Plowing priorities (as provided by Bornstedt) are as follows:

  • Route 1 Streets โ€“ Includes emergency and arterial streets, as well as the downtown corridor. Downtown streets cannot be plowed during the day due to congestion. Vehicles should be removed from the street prior to 11:00 pm to allow for snow plowing and removal.
  • Schools โ€“ Primarily the vicinities that require bus access.
  • Route 2 Streets โ€“ If time allows.
  • Route 3 Streets โ€“ Following Route 2.
  • Route 4 Streets โ€“ As needed if impassable.
  • Street intersections are checked daily at 4:00 am to determine if salting and sanding operations are necessary.
