BAKER CITY – Starting Monday, September 23, 2024 the Baker City Police Department will once again provide 24/7 coverage.
In November of 2023, Baker City Police Chief Ty Duby announced to the city council his plan to cut back on 24-hour patrols around town, citing staffing issues. Since that time Duby has worked to increase the staff within the department thus working towards returning back to 24/7 patrols.
Earlier this week the City of Baker City made the following announcement,
“Baker City has accelerated its previous plan to transition back to 24/7 coverage. There have been challenges with staffing that prevented the department from implementing the move earlier, but the department will resume a 24/7 schedule on September 23rd. Starting yesterday evening, the Baker City PD began to provide coverage during the early morning hours where there are gaps between scheduled patrols. This effort will continue until the Department shifts to the 24/7 schedule on September 23. We know that the safety and security of Baker City residents is central to what the City provides, and regaining 24/7 coverage will enhance those efforts.”
