BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker County District Attorney’s office) On June 21, 2024, Cory D. Deshirlia, 47 of Baker City, was sentenced to 28 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections.  Mr. Deshirlia was serving a probation sentence for felony Strangulation, stemming from a domestic violence incident that occurred January 31, 2022.  The sentence was pronounced by Judge Matthew B. Shirtcliff.  Judge Shirtcliff stated that Mr. Deshirlia was a danger to others and that he exhibited criminal thinking throughout his probation.

Mr. Deshirlia was also ordered to serve 30 days in the Baker County Jail.  At the end of the probation violation hearing, Mr. Deshirlia asked to share some thoughts with Judge Shirtcliff.  He then followed his request with a profane outburst directed at Judge Shirtcliff, which resulted in him being held in Contempt. That jail sentence is to be served consecutive to the DOC sentence.   District Attorney Greg M. Baxter, Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Spaulding and Probation Officer Debbi Wray handled the case for the State.
