Baker City man hospitalized and arrested following rollover crash on Highway 7

BAKER COUNTY – A Baker City man found himself both in the hospital and on the receiving end of a slew of charges following a hit run and rollover crash along Highway 7 last week. 

At around 5:13 p.m. on Friday, February 27, Oregon State Police responded to a reported hit and run along Highway 7 near Milepost 50 on the outskirts of Baker City. The driver, identified as 26-year-old William Jerret Konop, reportedly fled the scene and crashed a mile down the road, being ejected from the vehicle in the process. A full summary of the incident, as provided by OSP in a recent press log, is as follows:

“OSP responded to a hit and run motor vehicle crash near mile post 50, on Highway 7, which involved a 2009 blue Hyundai Santa fe and a silver 2023 Toyota Rav4, which also resulted in a single vehicle rollover crash of the Hyundai suspect vehicle near mile post 49, on Highway 7, after the suspect vehicle fled the scene, where the suspect vehicle lost control and rolled, causing damage to a private property fence and coming to an uncontrolled stop on its wheels. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to Saint Alphonsus, and later life flighted to treat possible serious injuries.

 OSP requested a non-preference tow and Baker Valley Towing responded to remove the vehicle. The driver was arrested for DUII Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Hit and Run and Criminal Mischief II.”

  • DUII – Intoxicants
  • Reckless Driving
  • Reckless Endangering Person
  • Criminal Mischief II
  • Fail to Perform Duties of Driver in Collision with Prop Damage (2x)
  • Criminal Mischief I (2x)
