DECEMBER 23, 2024
On December 14, 2024, at around 3:50 pm, the Baker City Police Department responded to a reported disturbance at 2135 Colorado Place, Baker City, Oregon. The investigation revealed that Randy Kahn, who resides at that residence, had been outside his home and fired a BB gun around the time a post office employee was delivering the mail. After firing the BB gun Mr. Kahn attacked the post office employee striking him with the butt of the BB gun as if it were a baseball bat. The postal worker was subsequently transported to St. Alphonsus hospital in Baker City where he received stitches and treated for injuries.
Mr. Kahn was arrested, transported to the Baker County Jail, and lodged for Assault I.
Due to this incident, in addition to other contacts between BCPD and Mr. Kahn, BCPD initiated the process of applying to the court for an Extreme Risk Protection Order which would prohibit Mr. Kahn from possessing firearms. While in the process of obtaining the order Mr. Kahn bailed out of jail and returned to his residence. On December 20th, 2024, the United States Postal Service came out with a federal arrest warrant for Mr. Kahn for Assault on a federal employee with a dangerous weapon. At about 11:45 am members of the Baker City Police Department and the Baker County Sheriff’s Office took Mr. Kahn into custody on that warrant. Baker City PD then responded to his residence at 2135 Colorado Place and executed a search warrant for the seizure of dangerous and deadly weapons per the order. Sixteen hunting type rifles, one semi auto SKS rifle, five handguns, three pellet guns and multiple edge weapons were seized from the residence.
