Baker City man arrested for manslaughter

BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) On January 8, 2021, Deputies from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mathew Guy Schlett (31 yoa) after he was indicted by a Baker County Grand Jury for the following charges: Manslaughter II, Criminally Negligent Homicide, DUII, Assault III, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person (2 counts). 

Charges stem from a motor vehicle accident occurring on November 30, 2020. Schlett was operating a 2013 Toyota Highlander at excessive speeds on Pocahontas Road when he failed to negotiate a curve causing the vehicle to roll into a field. Tahnee Main (36 yoa), of Baker City, was ejected and died at the scene. Two juveniles also sustained serious injuries, with one being transported to a Boise hospital via Life Flight. Schlett sustained minor injuries.
