BAKER CITY – Baker City is lifting its burn ban beginning Friday, September 8.
Burning is only allowed within city limits and anyone who wants to burn needs a permit from the city first, according to Baker City Fire Department Chief Todd Jaynes.
Permits can be picked up at City Hall.
Jaynes says the city lifted the burn ban after recent moisture and that the threat of wildfires has decreased.
“We all still need to be very careful though,” said Jaynes. “The vegetation is still dry and can still cause a lot of damage in town if a fire gets out of control and is not properly taken care of.”
Baker County still has its burn ban in place, as does the City of La Grande and Union County.
