(From Baker Cityโ€™s City Manager, Barry Murphy)

Good Morning Baker City,

We wanted to address the upcoming closure of the Safeway store that we know is a concern in the community. Having a business close of that size is always tough, but we’re doing what we can to facilitate communication during the smooth transition.

We’re in touch with the real estate agents that are trying to find a new tenant for the building. If you have ideas on what kind of business would be good in that location, please let us know and we’ll pass it on.

The City is working with Safeway management and local partners like Worksource Oregon, Economic Development, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Small Business Development Center. The intent is to ensure Safeway and Albertsons know of open jobs in the local area for any of the employees that will not be able to transition to Albertsons.

If you’re an employee at Safeway or anyone looking for a job, please see the notice below from Worksource Oregon. The organization has a wealth of resources, and they’re ready to help out in this transition.

Sincerely,

Barry Murphy, City Manager
