BAKER CITY — The Baker City Council has unanimously adopted its budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year during a council meeting held on June 25, 2024. The total budget amounts to $29,244,962, with a total of $38,097,739 including unappropriated ending fund balances.
The adoption process proceeded smoothly, with the Council passing both necessary resolutions without any issues. According to City Manager Barry Murphy, the only adjustment required was a minor reduction in the Equipment Purchase Reserve line of the Equipment Operation Fund (Fund 108). Apart from this, there were no changes to the budget approved by the Budget Board in May.
Significant appropriations in the adopted budget include $1,498,586 for Administrative Services, $2,971,983 for the Police Department, and $1,841,223 for the Fire Department within the General Fund. The budget also allocates $5,879,220 to the Water Utility Fund and $5,664,788 to the Wastewater Utility Fund.
Additionally, the City Council ratified the Fire Union agreement, which introduces a 4% raise for the upcoming budget year and a 1% incentive pay increase for qualifications such as Engineer and EMT-Advanced.
Funding for the local golf course, which has been a topic of controversy in recent years, was also addressed. The budget allocates $40,000 for Golf Course Operations and $1,518,552 for Golf Course Capital Projects. The substantial funding aims to support the maintenance and improvement of the facility.
The new fiscal year will begin on July 1, 2024, and the detailed budget is available for public review at City Hall, located at 1655 First Street, Baker City, Oregon.
