BAKER CITY — A community effort in Baker City to help feed needy students was boosted by the successful peanut butter drive organized by the Baker City Backpack Program.
The drive was announced in April to gather jars of peanut butter for the program, which feeds needy students across Baker County.
In the end, 1315 jars were collected. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office led the way, collecting more 334 jars from staff and community members.
“The Baker County Sheriff’s Office was honored to be asked to participate in the peanut butter drive to benefit the Baker City Backpack Program,” said Ashley McClay, Public Information Officer for the BCSO. “Sheriff Ash has volunteered with this program for nearly ten years, and this cause is near and dear to his heart. We are grateful to the Sheriff’s Office staff and the public for stepping up and going above and beyond with donations.”
As a reward, the sheriff’s office was presented with a funky peanut butter trophy by the Backpack Club for placing first in the contest.
