BAKER COUNTY – Baker and Union County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call received via a satellite phone late last week where the person stated they were in a vehicle, off the road in a precarious position and needed assistance. The caller reported being in the area of Forest Service Road 77 and Medical Springs.
The deputies responded but were unsuccessful in locating the vehicle or reporting partly. According to information from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue teams from both Baker and Union Counties were actively searching for the vehicle. Teams traversed Forest Road 77 and numerous road systems but did not locate any stranded motorists. Later that afternoon, new information was obtained from satellite phone messaging believed to be from the original reporting party telling her friends to disregard the previous request.
The search was discontinued. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office will follow up on this incident and thank all volunteers from the Union and Baker County Search and Rescue teams for their dedicated service.
