BAKER CITY — Experiments were done, ideas were heard, and fun was had at the Baker Adventist Christian School’s (BACS) Science Fair held recently. School officials report that, “62 scientists came from around Eastern Oregon and Southeast Washington, to Baker City, OR so they could share ideas and learn from each other.”
The Science Fair, held April 7th, featured a multitude of displays and experiments. The Greater Oregon Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (GO STEM) hub reportedly brought a planetarium show to the experience.
BACS officials stated, “A scientist, a mad scientist, Mr. Hosey, wowed the crowd as he surprised his colleague Daniel Trethewey with a fantastic array of bubbles, fire, and disappearing water.
A rock show was full of information about petrified wood and cut geodes. Magnetism, plant science, robotics and a Van de Graff generator kept the attention of all the scientists as they rotated through the class experiences.
The Grand Finale of the exposition was an RC Airshow which demonstrated the realities of flight, with airplanes and helicopters, crashing and landing with the expertise of Pilot Jim Culbertson.”
Also, regarding the 62 young student scientists, BACS reported, “The youngest was 4 years old. She shared her research on color mixing, it was very impressive. One of the older students shared their research on the elements of molding bread…There was quite a variety of research, observations and experiments that were reported. The judges gave a positive report of all the displays and passed out medals and certificates to the respective scientists.”
