BAKER CITY – (Information provided by Coach John Quintela) Eastern Oregon’s junior high athletes are continuing to make their hometowns proud. During this past weekend, the Baker 8th grade AAU Girls Basketball Team (Purple Reign) came in 3rd place at the Oregon State Championship in Redmond.
In correspondence with Elkhorn Media Group, coach John Quintela gave quite the description of the game and the team:
“What an amazing accomplishment for these ladies, placing 3rd out of 14 other teams in their division.
They defeated two teams from Portland in pool play – Putnam 46-18 and McDaniel 53-31; lost to the eventual champion Scappoose in the semifinals (40-52); and defeated Crook County 49-29 for the 3rd place title. And as always they represented Baker with excellent sportsmanship and class! They finished their season with a 19-9 record.
Some of these girls have been playing AAU basketball together for the last 6 years, and all of them will make a significant impact at the HS level.
Go Reign! Go Dawgs!”
