HERMISTON – Bail was set at $1 million for a Hermiston man charged with attempted murder following an apparent road-rage shooting in Stanfield over the weekend.

Prosecutors had requested a $250,000 bail for Joesiah Cortez during Monday’s hearing, citing the severity of the charges. While the court agreed the charges were serious, the judge opted to raise the amount to $1 million.

Cortez was also ordered to have no contact with the victims.

During the hearing, prosecutors alleged that Cortez fired into a car occupied by a man, his wife, and their 12-year-old granddaughter.

The next court hearing is scheduled for June 22.
