Avalanches are possible with the heavy snowfall

EASTERN OREGON – With warmer temperatures in the forecast the Wallowa Whitman forest official say an avalanche in the Wallowa Mountains, east and southeast facing terrain at and near ridgelines is likely because of windslab formation on that leeward facing terrain. Cautious route finding and conservative decision making will be essential for safe travel on the terrain. Heightened avalanche danger exists on all other terrain steeper than 35 degrees. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully on all terrain steeper than 35 degrees today.According to the Wallowa Whitman Forest Office in Baker City, the best place to follow Avalanche alerts is to click on Wallowa Avalanche Center | Facebook
