Avalanche in Deschutes County takes 1 life

Deschutes County-On March 15, 2023, a snowboarder descending Paulina Peak which is a 7,984-foot peak, located east of La Pine and the highest point on the Newberry Volcano, triggered an avalanche. There were three members of the team. One sustained fatal injuries despite hours of resuscitation efforts.

The other two members of the party were unharmed.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (DCSOSASR) was notified of the accident and is conducting recovery efforts.

Central Oregon Avalanche Center will be conducting an Avalanche Accident Report that will be forthcoming.
